What is this project?
This research explores a collaborative narrative framework between human agency and artificial intelligence through the lens of artistic practice. Aiming to bridge the gap between the cultural inheritance of Chinese calligraphy and its digital innovation, we developed an interactive art system titled Four Treasures of the Study. This system is driven by handwriting and mediated by AI recognition. In an immersive environment, participants write Chinese characters using a custom-designed digital brush. A YOLO-based visual model identifies these handwritten characters in real time and triggers semantic navigation—automatically guiding the camera to the cor-responding digital object within the virtual world. The environment is composed of four stylized scenes, each representing one of the treasures of Chinese calligraphy: brush, ink, paper, and inkstone. By linking abstract written symbols with their cultural referents, the system enables participants to engage with the aesthetic princi-ples and material histories of calligraphy. Our project emphasizes a co-authored narrative structure, where human writing initiates ma-chine interpretation. Situated at the intersection of artistic practice, cultural semiotics, and computational systems, this work offers a new perspective for the preservation and revitalization of intangible heritage through intelligent interaction.
